What are the differences between online storefronts and selling on eBay?

Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Question: What are the differences between online storefronts and selling on eBay?

Answer: Online storefronts are much more secure than online auction sites or similar product auction platforms, and the credit card transaction fees are lower than eBay’s. Individuals who sell on eBay do not necessarily own an online store and are not always eBusiness owners.

We recommend using auction sites like eBay as PART of your overall strategy and urge you to look into them once your storefront is live and operational. If you rely on third-party auction type sites (eBay, Craigslist, Google Base) to host and display your products you may encounter more down time, less flexibility and run the risk of loosing everything, especially if there are major policy changes, their selling guidelines get more strict or they shut the site down altogether.
