@ Linda - Unfortunately it wasn't THE Danny, but rather a new addition to the SEOmoz staff, Danny Dover (glad his parents didn't go with Ben). He is attending University of Washington and working at SEOmoz. You can check out his profile on SEOmoz if you want to learn a bit more about his new role there.

Don't worry though, one day I will get the illustrious Mr. Sullivan to comment, you'll see. Almost got one with this post, but he commented on Sphinn, not the blog dang it.

Ha ha, ya that confused me, didn't know Rand #1 was actually Danny Sullivan!

I don't mind banners on the Moz so long as it's relevant. None of those "Make $5000/day Sitting At Home in Your Pyjamas" deals. Cuz, you know, everyone who reads SEOmoz is already doing that.

@ Danny - Hey man! Thanks for the comment, clarification about the ad model and future SEOmoz plans. You need to update your MyBlogLog/Yahoo avatar Danny, that way you don't have to use Rand's (or was that an error on MBL's end?). I am glad to see plans haven't changed and the Moz will remain 'mostly' ad free.

@ randfish - I knew it had to be something like that (a trade or favor, something other than a paid ad). Glad to hear the clarification straight from the source, thanks. I didn't know about the three free months with SMX conference registration, is it posted somewhere on SEOmoz that I missed? Or mentioned elsewhere (on Danny's site no doubt, probably missed it)? I am probably going to the SMX West conference, is that one included, or just London? Would love to get three free months and I'd be willing to wait until that conference is part of the offer, if that's the case.

Matt - it's actually not a true ad (in that SMX is not paying us directly for it). We're actually running the banners as part of our continued partnership with SMX, and anyone who signs up to go the SMX conferences gets the 3 free months of premium membership w/ 1 year.

Good eye, though!

eCopt,

I appreciate your concern for the blog. SEOmoz is meant to be a place to learn about SEO not a place to advertise free ipod nanos. Rand discovered early on that obtrusive ads take away from the moz. Thus, they are not a major part of either the site or SEOmoz's revenue.

I agree with you that the addition of a lot of ads would take away from the site. I assure you this is not the plan. I was originally drawn to company by its culture of transparency and sharing. If there was ever to be a major change in the company, it would certainly be mentioned in the blog. Just like Rand said in the post you linked to, SEOmoz plans to continue to rely on Premium Content and, to a lesser degree, consulting services for revenue.

Thanks for the good read and I hope this answers your questions.
