@ Dan - Good insights, I agree with most of your thoughts. The benefits to users range from top-notch technology, tracking tools, management tools and 'Google compliant' standards (according to Google). Even advanced users can make use of the tracking and management tools (IMO Base tracking and management interface is not the best). Yes, being a G-partner does give you access to updates as soon as they are announced which gives users the confidence that their feed management company will most likely always be up to date. In addition, the coaching these companies give, including training and advice is priceless, Google is helping to inform users as to which ones they can rely on. It's not unfair, those companies earned the right to be there and I believe Google prides itself on the strategic partnerships they make. Look for this to continue as it has in the past with Checkout (as stated in the post).

I agree that these companies should already be using the Google recommended formatting, attributes and other data aspects. Now they have to keep them updated. There are far more companies than the three announced on the first list, but I expect that there will be more.

Good point about the lack of blog posts and number of recent bugs. I know they have been working on it, as I expect they will continue to, but doesn't explain why we haven't been updated on recent happenings. Hopefully they get things sorted out and running smoothly again soon.

I'm not really sure about the benefit that these companies will provide a user. These companies should already be supplying expert feeds with all the required attributes and custom attributes, that is why they cost so much money. We have talked with each one of these providers and I don't see how them partnering with google will benefit anything except for insider information and possibly them getting ranked higher because they are partners, both of which would make it pretty unfair.

I think base should be working on fixing their algorithm first and talking about base more publicly on their blog. There are a lot of issues right not on base and it appears the GoogleBase team decided to stop posting on their blog at the same time these problems started arising.
