It’s time for another Store Spotlight everyone! I have got to say, this is one of the most fun blog series we have done here at eCommerce Optimization. Already I can tell that we will all learn so much from the top 100 retailers who choose to participate in this interview style QandA. The series really does give us all an inside look into some of the most successful Online retailers in existence today.
eCopt Takes a Look at StacksandStacks.com:
Today’s Store Spotlight features an inside look into StacksandStacks.com. We were lucky enough to catch up with Mel Ronick, President of StacksandStacks.com, to ask him about their business, background, customers, products, design, marketing, team and other factors that have attributed to their success over the years. Basically, we wanted to find out some of the things they have done that has led to them becoming a 2008 Hot 100 Retailer. In the process, we hope that others can learn and benefit from what has worked and what hasn’t during their time in the Online retail business.
We have a few new sites, blogs or authors to mention in our BIG Thanks article this week. BIG Thanks is a weekly series we do on Fridays to personally reach out and thank our site supporters and other sites or blogs that link to our articles, mention us or add us to their blogroll. We appreciate these links and support so much that we want to personally thank each and every one of you. To see more BIG Thanks articles, you can access past posts and other site related updates, in the eCommerce Optimization Site News and Updates section.
Last night I was browsing my Technorati reaction links and spotted a recent one from Brian Smith’s blog, ComparisonEngines.com. If you’re not already familiar with Brian’s blog, it’s all about comparison shopping engines and understanding the inner workings of them. It also includes comparison shopping tips, news, specifics about data feeds and much, much more.
I was hoping that we got added to his blogroll, so when I jumped over to check out what was up, I noticed that indeed we did get added, but the blogroll wasn’t the only thing that he updated recently. As a matter of fact, he rolled out a whole new look and feel for the blog including a new color scheme and header graphic with really cool rounded corner content background images. Comparison Engines is one of the eCommerce blogs I visit most often during each week (the Get Elastic blog is another one).
We only have one new BIG Thanks to give out this week. We have been posting this series each week as a way to publicly thank the sites that help support eCommerce Optimization. It is also a great way for our readers to find out about new blogs and sites they may not have read or heard of before. To catchup on past BIG Thanks articles, you can access the archives and other site related updates in our Site News and Updates category.
I recently noticed a change to the ‘Products’ link in Google’s main navigation. Not too long ago they removed the ‘Video’ link and replaced it with ‘Products’ instead. Now they have changed the ‘Products’ link again, but this time they renamed it to ‘Shopping’ on the main navigation found on all results pages and Google’s main page.
We have a couple more sites/authors to thank this week. BIG Thanks is a weekly series we post to personally thank authors, sites or blogs who have linked to us, mentioned an article of ours or added us to their blogroll. Each of the following sites/authors have either linked to us from a blogroll or mentioned us in a post on their blog. We appreciate these supporters and links so much that we want to personally thank each and every one of you. Without the support of readers, other bloggers and fans, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Links make the Web go round.
Anyway, lets get into the BIG Thanks for this week.
I was browsing news headlines yesterday and came across an interesting one on CNN Money about Google Product Search. According to the news piece, the comparison shopping engine site by Google has been experiencing dramatic drops in traffic to their shopping service while comparable shopping search services such as TheFind.com or Pronto.com and even Yahoo Shopping have all increased or remained steady, at the least.
Our regular blog readers know that I am quite fond of the comparison shopping engine known as TheFind.com. It’s one of the CSE’s I regularly post about and advocate for and continues to move up on my list as one of the best product search destinations with social shopping capabilities. Not too long ago, we posted about some of the things TheFind is doing to make their search service even better including their mini-malls, virtual shopping districts, improved product mouse hovers and even an advanced search and browsing history features.
Today, TheFind has launched yet another new and useful feature for shoppers and merchants which allows TheFind.com users to be able to search and discover local shopping destinations for products within a specific geographic area. Not only that, but the new local search sorting and refinement capability also includes an in-store availability feature and shows the user related maps, all from one page for quick and easy access to products close to a shoppers’ physical locations.
One of the things I love about my job is that I get to dissect and analyze some of the things that I think Online sellers are doing right and which areas they could possibly be doing better on. It’s fun to me mostly because no two eCommerce sites are exactly the same and there are so many variables and factors that go into doing eCommerce correctly that it can be extremely challenging to do it perfectly, no matter how large or small your companies and budgets are. In short, there’s always room to improve and there is always something to do when running your own business, Online or off.
This week we are kicking off a new series called Store Spotlight. You may have seen the category or text near the top of some of our pages highlighting this area, but up until now we have not had a chance to get the series started (mostly due to client duties, CSE interviews, timing, etc).
I am proud to announce that this article marks the first ever eCommerce Optimization Store Spotlight. Hopefully, with your loyal readership and the support of others this will become a regular thing on our blog, and should teach each and every one of us a little more about what other eCommerce companies are doing that work, things that don’t work and other unique ideas that have been tried over the years, months or days Online.
Google Base Blog announced today that they are changing the name of their ‘bulk uploads’ tab to be more in line with eCommerce publisher and merchant terminology. The tab will now be called ‘data feeds,’ which still appears under the My Items tab next to Active and Inactive Item links (see screenshot above).
